Ohio Lottery Numbers by Frequency: All Six Games

Ohio runs six of its own lottery games, and if you ask all six the same question, which number comes up most, you get answers that are not remotely comparable. Rolling Cash 5 will tell you ball 20, drawn 51 times in the last 300. Ohio Pick 4 will tell you a digit. Those two facts look alike on a chart and mean entirely different things.

Here is the whole Ohio lineup read honestly, and the one distinction that makes the numbers make sense.

Ohio's six games split into two families

Three are pool games: Rolling Cash 5 (five balls from 39), Classic Lotto (six from 49) and Millionaire for Life (five from 58 plus a bonus ball). You pick numbers out of one bag, and a frequency chart ranks every ball against the share it should have won.

Three are digit games: Ohio Pick 3, Ohio Pick 4 and Ohio Pick 5. These do not draw from a bag at all. Each position draws its own digit from 0 to 9, independently of the others, so a Pick 4 result is four separate little races rather than one. Pooling all four positions into a single tally is the most common way to misread these games.

The pool games, and what their leaders are measured against

A pool game's fair share is easy to work out, and it is the number that makes a hot list readable.

Note how different the sample depths are. Rolling Cash 5 has 7,862 draws on record and Classic Lotto 3,064, while Millionaire for Life has only 189, because it is Ohio's newest game. A leader in a 189-draw record is standing on far less evidence than one in a 7,862-draw record, which is worth remembering before reading much into it.

• Rolling Cash 5 draws five of 39 nightly, so across 300 draws each ball's fair share is about 38. Ball 20 leads with 51, roughly a third above its share; 25 trails at 28; the longest current gap belongs to 21, 24 draws back.
• Classic Lotto draws six of 49, so the fair share across 300 draws is about 37. Ball 41 leads with 52, about 40 percent clear; 30 trails at 25; 9 carries the longest gap at 33 draws.
• Millionaire for Life draws five of 58, and its entire history is still only 189 draws, putting the fair share near 16. Ball 3 leads with 24, and 34 sits at both the coldest count (10) and the longest gap (35 draws).

The digit games, where position is everything

Ohio's Pick games carry by far the deepest records in the state: Ohio Pick 4 has 18,679 draws and Ohio Pick 3 has 18,664, because both draw twice a day, midday and evening. Ohio Pick 5 has 10,261. That is more history than the three pool games combined, several times over.

But the fair share works differently. Every position runs its own 0-to-9 race, so any single digit's share in any single slot is one in ten. A digit can run well ahead in the first position and quietly behind in the third, and a pooled count averages that texture away. Why you cannot rank the six against each other

A Rolling Cash 5 ball at 51 appearances and an Ohio Pick 4 digit at several thousand are not on the same scale, and neither is more impressive than the other. One is a ball competing against 38 others for a slot; the other is a digit competing against nine others, four times a draw, twice a day, for 26 years.

The only comparison that travels between them is the ratio: how far did this number land from the share the format says it should get. On that measure Ohio's pool leaders currently sit somewhere between a third and a half above their baselines, which is the ordinary spread a few hundred draws produces.
